The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Houston Division Citizens Academy The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Houston Field Division is proud to host its 6th annual ATF Citizens Academy. ATF recognizes the importance of forging strong alliances with local communities and maintaining collaborative relationships with community leaders. Qualified candidates will be provided a unique look into the nation’s leading agency in the investigation of firearms, arson, and explosives laws. In addition, candidates will discover how local communities and citizens can play a key role in ATF’s critical mission. The ATF will provide an in-depth, working knowledge of federal firearms, explosives, and arson efforts in combatting illegal firearm trafficking. The course will be comprised of topics such as ATF Mission and History, Firearms Trafficking, K-9, Weapons Familiarization to include a Range Day, Surveillance, and Raid Planning and Execution. The class is tentatively scheduled for Fall, 2021. This eight week program will take place one night per week on Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In place of two evening classes, there will be two day classes at an off-site location. (firearms range day, and explosives demonstration day). Classes will be held at the ATF Houston Division Office. There are no fees for enrollment. Potential candidates must be a business, civic, and/or religious community leaders. Federal firearms licensees and journalists are also welcome to apply. All applications must be approved by the Special Agent in Charge in Houston. All candidates must pass a security clearance, have no prior felony convictions, and agree to a hold-harmless agreement form.
